Royal Tin

I know that there are many places that suffer winters much worse than ours.

But I'm a summer girl through and through.  Winters are tough on me.

I'm able to easily make it through November, December, and January with the holidays and activities to keep my mind off of how cold I'm getting.

Come February and March, I struggle to find the light at the end of the tunnel.  I am yearning, yearning for the warm sun on my face and my bare feet in the cool grass.

To combat the winter blues last week, I took a little trip to one of my favorite stores (Home Goods) with one of my favorite people.  The few hours that it takes to mosey through the store allows me to forget the ho hum of the winter.

On this trip my friend and I both picked up a cute tin with large rope handles.  I loved the rustic look of it and immediately thought, "What can I paint on this?"

I picked the crown for no other reason than I just liked it at that moment.

My usual trick of transferring the image by rubbing chalk on the back and transferring it to the tin didn't work.  So I tried graphite.  Fail.  So I tried wax crayon.  Slight improvement.

I got enough of an outline that it helped me with the placement of the crown and I could do the detail with the paint brush.
