{DIY} Chalk Paint and Before and After Bureau and Nightstand

This post is "chalk" full of good stuff.  Get it?  Oh well, never claimed to be a comedian.

But really a DIY how to and Before/After all in one.  It's a twofer one deal.  Ok, I'll quit with the jokes.

I decided I wanted to try to make my own chalk paint.  As I researched if I should, I found many people having great success at it.  One thing I also noticed is that there are many "recipes" for how to make DIY chalk paint.

I chose the Plaster of Paris method because I had to shell out less money up front.  I think the container was $6.  This container of PoP will last a LONG time too.

I used the Valspar Color Sample from Lowes in a satin finish and pine green color.

For the nightstand I used about a half the sample container of paint and the bureau used about one and half containers.

I will definitely make my own chalk paint again.  Remember one of the greatest things about using chalk paint is not having to sand down a piece of furniture.  It's winter.  I'm doing all my painting inside right now.  I really don't want sand dust flying everywhere. {Have enough dust already, thank you.}  I think this covered just as nice as Annie Sloan and finished as nice as well.

Here is how I made {DIY} Chalk Paint

Begin by mixing the Plaster of Paris and warm/hot water.
For 8 ounces of paint (the size of the Valspar sample), mix 5-6 tablespoons of plaster of paris with 4 tablespoons of water.
Start there.
Mix it up well.  Keep mixing until all the lumps are out.  You want the mixture to be the consistency of Greek yogurt.
Pretty thick but still so that it will fall from a spoon if you tip it over.

Once you have the right consistency, add in your paint and mix well again.  You want the PoP and the paint to be completely combined.

Now off to paint you go.  That simple.
