Before and After Lamp and Shade

I never turn down a freebie.  So when hubby came home and asked if I wanted a pair of lamps that were in a little girls room, I said "SURE"!

A few weeks later he came home these beauties.

After another week or two, it occurred to me where I could use these and what direction I wanted to go with them.

As mentioned in an earlier post I'm exploring the "French Farmhouse Glam" look in our dining room.  That helped in deciding which direction to go with the lamps.

Flashy Krylon Metallic Brilliant Silver  Yes I said it.  Flashy. Metallic. Brilliant. Silver.  That spells fun, unexpected, original, and chic to me.

Now, do I continue on with the chic and flashy or do I go more rustic on the shades?  I considered incorporating twine or rope or book pages.  In the end, decided on more va-va-voom in the form of Grey Zebra print.  {Funny part is that I just happened to have that hanging around left over from a project from last year.}

Covering the lampshades in this fabric was simple.  They are almost a perfect cylinder.  All it took was cutting a strip of fabric the length and width that would cover the shade.  Brush on a simple white glue, smooth the fabric on and ta-da!

I decided against adding any other embellishments to the shade because of, well. . . shiny, brilliant, silver, zebra, metallic.  You get the picture.

Still not done with the walls and so I can only show you a small section of the room with the lamp.
